However, at Wildman Wilderness Lodge, this is a wondrous everyday occurrence, with a diverse and exciting range of tours on offer to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Essential to the experience is crocodile spotting on the Home Billabong sunset cruise or the full day Mary River Wetlands cruise; and a full day tour into Kakadu National Park. Home Billabong Cruise 1hr
Enjoy a one hour cruise on our very own exclusive billabong as the sun warms up and nature comes to life. You are likely to glide past prehistoric looking crocodiles, an amazing array of birdlife and an abundance of wildflowers. It is an ever changing living ecosystem which is both beautiful and fascinating. Every cruise is different and offers a unique experience.
Our experienced guides are accredited and provide fascinating insights into the flora and fauna of the region. This tour departs daily from the Wildman Central Lodge in the morning and returns approximately 1.5 hours later. Bring your hat, sunscreen, water and your camera.

Mary River Rockhole Cruise
Ask about the timetable for this amazing cruise on the mighty Mary River as it varies throughout the season. This is an excellent opportunity to observe crocodiles, wetland birds and fantastic views across the vast Mary River floodplain. Glide down this vast river system which can triple in size during the wet season; venture into sheltered billabongs and sit in silence and observe nature at its best.

Full Day Kakadu Tour
Depart the lodge at 8.00am and journey to Kakadu via the Old Jim Jim Rd. Enjoy morning tea then travel across floodplains and billabongs. Immerse yourself in the Aboriginal history at Waradjin Cultural Centre. Journey on to Burrunggui in the Nourlangie Region to experience the oldest living culture on earth through ancient rock art and feast on see amazing views of the Arnhem Land escarpment from Gun-warddehwardde lookout. Stop for a sumptuous picnic lunch at Anbangbang billabong. Lunch is worked off with a short hike to Nawurlandja lookout. We then journey down the Kakadu highway to Mamukala observation platform for a stunning view over the wetlands.
Kakadu is an expansive World Heritage area and a long drive is required to see the best of it. Extended periods of time in a vehicle can be expected. There are plenty of stops to stretch the legs but please do not choose this tour if you cannot endure motor vehicle travel of up to 6 hours in total. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen.

Leichhardt Point Sundowners
Depart the Lodge 1hr before sunset and journey through forests and savannahs to Leichhardt Point where we stop for refreshments as we watch the amazing sunsets over the wetlands. Leichhardt Point provides an amazing eco-system teaming with birdlife where the wetlands rise and recede with the seasons. Depending on the time of year, the water table may be high or dry. A vast seasonal variety of flora and fauna results.

Quad Bike Tour
Meet your expert guide and undertake a short quad orientation and safety session. Depart the Lodge and follow the fringe of the Connellan Billabong to Leichhardt Point on the only Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service approved Quad Bike Tour in the Northern Territory.
Riders will see an amazing array of birdlife and sometimes buffalo or wild brumby. Return to the Lodge via a loop track through a widely
varied forest on dirt tracks and unmade terrain.
This tour is for guests aged 16 years and older.

Culture Walk
Join one of our expert guides for a walk to the edge of the wetlands, meandering through fields of termite mounds and freshwater mangroves for a unique insight into the wetland ecosystem. You might even find some bush tucker and gain an insight into the ancient culture of our Traditional Owners. This complimentary activity is a fantastic introduction to your stay at Wildman.

Ideas for private tours include:
Barramundi fishing safaris
Launch into a day of fishing in of Australia’s most iconic barra fishing spots at Rockhole or Shady camp with an experienced fishing guide. Full or half day. Lunch and gear provided. Advanced bookings are essential.
Kakadu day tour
Visit Kakadu on a day tour departing Wildman after breakfast and returning in time for dinner. Experience the world’s oldest living culture through rock art and see amazing views of the Arnhem Land escarpment. During the dry season we take a trip to see one of the spectacular waterfalls and perhaps to have a swim. Note this itinerary is subject to change depending on weather conditions and accessibility within the National Park.
Marrakai Track/ Litchfield National Park day tour
Take a trip across the unsealed Marrakai Track for a true Australian outback trip along the way to Litchfield. Visit all the major waterfalls, enjoy a swim and see the magnetic termite fields. Gourmet picnic lunch supplied. Full day.
Mary River National Park tour
During the last and successful attempt by the legendry Explorer John Stuart, the expedition party traveled through the Mary River district and forged a route to reach the northern coast of Australia at what is now known as Point Stuart. A small cairn is erected at Point Stuart in honour of Stuart’s epic achievement in crossing the entire continent of Australia and returning without his party having lost a life and paving the way for the overland telegraph line.
Guests depart the resort and visit some of the Mary River NP key sites including the Wildman 4WD track, Shady Camp, Point Stuart Reserve, and Mistake Billabong. Includes a short 2km walk to view Stuarts Cairn.

There are many activities to enjoy when staying at Wildman. Naturally everything depends on the time of year you stay with us and the weather conditions. Here are just a sample of the complimentary activities available within walking distance of the Lodge. Plus the Culture Walk (listed above) is also complimentary and can be pre-booked online.

Wildman Floodplains Walking Trail
A 20 minute walking trail takes you over the airstrip, through fields of termite mounts and onto the floodplains.
Wildman Forest Walking Trail
A 30 minute walking trail that takes you through wet-season flooded forests where wallabies roam and birds nest.
Wildman Wetlands Walking Trail
A 45 minute walking trail for the more adventurous that takes you over seasonal floodplains, with hopefully a glimpse of a buffalo or two wallowing in the mud.
Bicycles
Take one of our mountain bikes out on the bush tracks and trails. A great way to get up close and personal with the country.
Board Games
Take pleasure in the picturesque backdrop of the floodplains on the cosy couches in our air conditioned bar whilst engaging in a game of Scrabble, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit or one of many card games.
Infinity pool
Take a refreshing dip in our infinity pool or relax in the sun with that good book you have been meaning to read but just never found the time.

For guests with their own car there are many sites to visit within easy driving distance from Wildman. Here are just a few recommendations of places to visit in the area.
Brian Creek Monsoon Forest Walk
A 6km drive from Wildman takes you to the start of the 30min walking track through thick Monsoon forest with active wildlife
Mary River Rockhole and Couzens Lookout
A 45 minute drive (18 km dirt road) from Wildman
Shady Camp
A fisherman’s paradise, where the salt and the fresh water meet and the crocodiles are in abundance.
Jumping Crocodile Cruise
A one hour drive from Wildman will bring you to Adelaide River where many companies offer the famous ‘jumping crocodile’ cruises
Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre
A one hour drive from Wildman brings you to the highest point in the wetlands where you have magnificent views over the floodplains and interactive displays to entertain and inform.
Mamukala
A one hour drive along the Arnhem Highway brings you to Mamukala wetlands and bird hide. Two walks start here - one 30 minute, one 2 hour walk for the more adventurous.
Kakadu NATIONAL PARK
We highly recommend stopping at the Bowali Visitor Centre to find out what’s on today in Kakadu and to collect your visitor’s pass. Popular sights are Ubirr, Nourlangie Rock, Yellow Waters, and the Warradjin Aboriginal Culture Centre. A scenic flight from Jabiru is a fabulous way to see and understand this amazing area.
Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve
Provides an important refuge for wildlife. Two walking tracks plus the dam wall walk make for an enjoyable time with plenty of birdlife to photograph.
Located approximately 70 km east of Darwin along the Arnhem Highway. Take the Stuart Highway South and turn down the Arnhem Highway. Almost 25 km east of the Stuart Highway, signs indicate the way to Fogg Dam which is then 6 km from the Arnhem Highway. It has all weather access and is open all year.
